Doha, Qatar: On the occasion of World Cities Day, observed annually on October 31, Qatar reaffirmed its pioneering role in designing sustainable, healthy, and smart urban environments that prioritise human wellbeing, environmental preservation, and technological innovation.

One of the major achievements highlighted is Qatar’s remarkable expansion of green spaces. Since 2010, the country has increased its green areas tenfold, introducing a wide range of public parks, community gardens, and landscaped open spaces.

These developments have created safe, welcoming environments for residents and visitors to enjoy, promoting outdoor leisure, recreation, and social interaction while significantly contributing to environmental sustainability and urban wellbeing.

The country’s ongoing achievements are closely aligned with the Qatar National Vision 2030, which envisions a balanced and inclusive future through comprehensive strategies aimed at enhancing quality of life and ensuring well-planned urban growth.

Marking World Cities Day, the Ministry of Municipality on its X platform spotlighted a range of accomplishments and projects that have positioned Qatar as a global leader in sustainable city development.

Qatar is the first country in the world to have all its municipalities officially recognised as “Healthy Cities” by the World Health Organization (WHO), a distinction that underscores the nation’s commitment to health-focused urban planning.

This recognition means that every municipality in Qatar now meets WHO’s stringent standards for promoting public health, environmental safety, and community wellbeing.

Qatar’s cities have also gained international recognition through their active membership in the Unesco Global Network of Learning Cities.

This status reflects the country’s dedication to fostering environments where learning is accessible to everyone, supporting continuous personal and professional development as an integral part of sustainable social progress.

Furthermore, Qatar is executing a comprehensive urban development plan that aligns seamlessly with the long-term goals of Qatar National Vision 2030.

This strategic blueprint ensures that future growth is managed in a sustainable manner that supports balanced development, environmental responsibility, and resilience against climate challenges.

Qatar’s leadership in urban innovation is also evident in several groundbreaking initiatives. The launch of "Plant Ten Million Trees" campaign is a clear example of the country’s commitment to enhancing biodiversity and expanding its green landscape. By planting millions of trees across cities and natural areas, Qatar is significantly contributing to carbon reduction and environmental protection.

In addition, the rollout of smart city solutions is transforming urban living through advanced digital technologies that streamline municipal services.
