Doha, Qatar: From sports and science to technology, creativity and personal development, Qatar Foundation (QF) is once again transforming Education City into a vibrant summer destination where children and youth and families can learn, explore and grow.
Running until end of August, QF’s extensive summer programme offers a diverse calendar of camps, workshops, classes and activities that create opportunities for learning, connection and personal development. Designed to cater to a wide range of interests and age groups, the initiative reflects the foundation’s continued investment in nurturing future generations while making Education City a year-round hub for community engagement.
Head of Sports Programming at Qatar Foundation, Hamad S. Al-Shaiba told The Peninsula that the annual initiative has undergone remarkable growth over the years.
“Qatar Foundation’s summer programmes have grown significantly over the years, both in scale and diversity,” Al-Shaiba said. “What began as a selection of educational and recreational activities has evolved into a comprehensive portfolio that includes sports, technology, science, arts, innovation, and personal development programmes.”

He added that participation has steadily increased, with more children, young people and families choosing to spend their summers at Education City.
“We have also seen a steady increase in participation from children, youth, and families, reflecting the community’s trust in the quality and impact of these experiences,” he said.
New experiences for curious young minds
This year’s programme introduces several new experiences that reflect emerging interests among young people while building on popular favourites from previous editions.
Among the highlights is the Quantum Computing Camp, alongside expanded sports programmes, innovative STEM-based learning opportunities and inclusive camps designed for participants of different abilities.
“The focus is on creating engaging experiences that combine learning, discovery, and enjoyment,” Al-Shaiba said.
Thousands of participants are expected to take part in activities across Education City this summer, with registrations already demonstrating strong community interest.
“We expect to welcome several thousand participants across the various summer programmes and activities hosted throughout Education City,” he said. “Registration levels and community engagement have been very encouraging, demonstrating strong interest from families across Qatar.”
The programme also features extensive sporting opportunities, with football, badminton, swimming, basketball, volleyball, squash and gym facilities available for booking throughout the summer across QF’s indoor venues. Specialised classes, including gymnastics and futsal, provide additional opportunities for participants of different ages and abilities.
QF’s Pre-University Education is also hosting another edition of the popular Mukhayamna Program, while the Creating Pathways Program is welcoming girls aged 7 to 12 to train like athletes through a dynamic two-week camp. Meanwhile, Al-Mujadilah: Center & Mosque for Women is organising the Khawla Summer Camp, where girls aged 9 to 12 explore the values of mercy and compassion through reflection, teamwork and interactive activities.

Strong demand for innovation and inclusive programmes
Among the wide variety of offerings, Al-Shaiba said technology-focused programmes and inclusive initiatives have generated particularly strong interest.
“Some of the most popular programmes this year include our multi-sport camps, technology and innovation-focused programmes, the Quantum Computing Camp, and our Ability-Friendly Camp,” he said.
“We have also seen strong demand for programmes designed specifically for young girls and women, as well as family-oriented activities.”
Beyond keeping children engaged during the summer break, the programmes are designed to support Qatar Foundation’s long-term vision of developing capable, confident and well-rounded young people.
“These programmes play an important role in developing well-rounded young people by fostering creativity, leadership, teamwork, resilience, and critical thinking,” Al-Shaiba explained.
“They provide participants with opportunities to explore their interests, build confidence, and develop practical skills that will help prepare them for future academic and professional success. This aligns closely with Qatar Foundation’s commitment to empowering the next generation and supporting Qatar’s long-term development goals.”
Creating opportunities for everyone
Inclusivity remains central to the programme’s design, with efforts made to ensure children of different abilities can fully participate.
“Inclusivity is a key priority across all our programmes,” Al-Shaiba said. “We strive to provide welcoming and accessible environments through adapted facilities, trained staff, and programme designs that accommodate diverse needs and abilities. Our goal is to ensure that every participant has the opportunity to engage, learn, and thrive in a supportive setting.”
Programme organisers also closely monitor the impact of each initiative through participant feedback, engagement levels and longer-term outcomes.
“We evaluate programme success through several measures, including participant numbers, satisfaction surveys, feedback from parents and guardians, learning outcomes, and overall engagement levels,” Al-Shaiba said.
“We also look at the long-term impact on participants, including the skills they develop, their confidence levels, and their continued involvement in educational and community activities.”
The feedback gathered also helps shape future editions of the programme.
“Successful programmes are regularly enhanced and expanded, and we remain committed to introducing new initiatives that respond to the changing needs and aspirations of the community,” he said.
Inspiring lifelong learning
As Education City continues to serve as a centre for education, research, sport and culture throughout the year, Al-Shaiba encouraged families to make the most of the opportunities available this summer.
“I encourage families to take advantage of the exceptional opportunities available through Qatar Foundation’s summer programmes,” he said. “These experiences provide a unique combination of learning, personal growth, social interaction, and fun within a safe and inspiring environment.”
“Our aim is for every participant to leave with lasting memories, valuable skills, and renewed confidence.”
He added that the summer programme reflects Qatar Foundation’s broader mission of fostering curiosity and lifelong learning.
“Education City continues to be a vibrant destination for learning, discovery, and community engagement throughout the year,” Al-Shaiba said. “Our summer programmes reflect Qatar Foundation’s commitment to providing meaningful opportunities that inspire curiosity, innovation, and lifelong learning.”
