DOHA: The Ministry of Education and Higher Education has announced that registration is now open for the Grade Improvement Service for successful General Secondary School Certificate students from the 2025-2026 academic year, allowing eligible students to sit for second-round examinations to improve their final academic average.
The ministry said applications will remain open until July 25, 2026, through the Maaref Public Services Portal, giving Grade 12 graduates an opportunity to enhance their academic results in accordance with the approved regulations.
Under the service, students may choose any number of subjects in which they wish to improve their marks. The second-round examinations for these subjects will cover the full curriculum of both academic semesters (100%), ensuring a comprehensive assessment of students’ knowledge.
The ministry emphasized that students who apply for the Grade Improvement Service must attend the second-round examinations in all the subjects they have selected. Failure to attend any of the chosen examinations will result in the student not being awarded a Grade Improvement Certificate.
According to the ministry, the marks obtained in the second-round examinations will replace the student’s previous results only for the subjects selected for improvement, while the first-round examination grades will remain valid for all subjects that the student did not choose to retake.
Students who successfully complete the second-round examinations for the purpose of improving their academic average will receive a certificate titled “General Secondary School Certificate – Second Round / Grade Improvement.”
The ministry clarified that applying for the Grade Improvement Service does not invalidate or cancel the student’s original first-round pass certificate. Instead, it provides an additional opportunity for graduates seeking higher academic averages, which may strengthen their eligibility for university admissions, scholarships, or other higher education opportunities.
