Everyone in Qatar, citizens and residents alike, was very happy to listen to the wise words spoken by Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani yesterday. Those words were real pearls of wisdom by a leader who is always keen on the welfare of the people of the country, devising and implementing a wholesome development of the state and leading the nation in its march towards the pinnacle of progress.
H H the Amir’s address inaugurating the 48th ordinary session of the Shura Council touched on several topics beginning with the democratisation of the country and concluding with Qatar’s stance on the most pressing regional and international issues.
H H the Amir elaborated on the two Amiri Decions No.27 and No.47 about extending the term of the current Shura Council for two years and establishing the High Committee for the Advisory Council’s elections and defining its functions, under the chairmanship of H E the Prime Minister to oversee preparations of the Advisory Council elections, draw up the necessary draft laws and propose a timeline for the elections of the Council’s members.
H H the Amir spoke at length about the success of the relentless efforts in containing the negative impacts of the unjust blockade, reiterating Qatar’s readiness for dialogue to resolve differences between the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, based on mutual respect and non-interference in internal affairs. H H the Amir praised the Qatari people, noting their magnanimity and unity in the defence of their homeland’s sovereignty and principles. Speaking about the nation’s progress in implementing development programmes, H H the Amir said that the country’s GDP at current prices grew in 2018 by about 15 percent.
H H the Amir stressed on the human development of the country, which proves the keenness of the leadership on the all-encompassing welfare and well-being of the people who are the backbone of any country’s development and culture.
H H the Amir reminded the citizens about their duties saying ‘rights are not privileges or a mere sense of superiority engendered by identity or unwarrantable transcendence towards others, because humility is a proof of self-confidence and showing respect’. H H the Amir added that the ‘responsibilities of citizenship also require being appreciative of those who have worked hard in building this country and this includes our resident brothers’.
H H the Amir’s speech bears witness to what the people of Qatar, citizens and expatriates, have been enjoying in this country. The expatriates have made the country their second home thanks to the excellent treatment extended to them by the Qatari citizens and especially by the leadership.
