Baghdad: The Iraqi Meteorological Organization and Seismology (IMOS) announced the recording of 22 earthquakes during June 2026.
The tremors were distributed across the governorates of Diyala, Sulaymaniyah, Kirkuk, Nineveh, Salah Al-Din, Erbil, Wasit, and Basra, said Iraq's Seismological Monitoring Department in a statement.
The statement added that the magnitude of the earthquakes ranged between 1 and 4.4 on the Richter scale.
Iraq lies close to seismically active tectonic plates, which runs the risk of being vulnerable to the impacts of quakes occurring in both Türkiye and Iran, particularly in its eastern and northern regions, with fallout that may extend to central areas.
