• There is talk about the first Qatar Airways scheduled flight landing at Hamad International Airport yesterday. The airline has announced start of its full operations from the new airport.
• Residents of many areas in Doha are complaining about truck drivers violating the law that bans parking of trucks in residential areas. Many families are suffering because of drivers parking trucks beside their homes.
• Some people have complained that when they visit the offices of some government entities they are asked to wait for half an hour or more, with the excuse that the “system is down”.
• The authorities have been urged to provide the elderly and women with a suitable transportation system inside Hamad International Airport, as on arrival they have to walk a long distance to claim their baggage, and they need help until they reach the exit gates.
• Some people have suggested that the Department of Consumer Protection be separated from the Ministry of Economy and Commerce and made an independent authority to enable it to play a more effective role in consumer protection. If it becomes an authority, people can easily reach officials and lodge complaints against violators, and the authorities can monitor the local market with support from the public.
• Several people have demanded that standards be laid down for material used in construction of parking lots at commercial complexes. In some complexes the parking lot floors cause people to slip, particularly when it rains or a car has been washed there.
