Doha, Qatar: The General Directorate of Endowments at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has received a significant real estate endowment from a group of benevolent women, reflecting the growing awareness of the importance of endowments as a tool for sustainable community development.
The endowment includes a residential complex of eight villas in Al Khor, a two-storey villa in Al Wakra, and two residential houses in North Khalifa City. According to official records, this marks the first endowment initiative by the donors, making their contribution a pioneering example of charitable giving in the country.
Director-General of the General Directorate of Endowments Eng Hassan bin Abdullah Al-Marzouqi, praised the initiative, describing it as “a model of inclusiveness and diversity in charitable giving.”
He noted that the donors stipulated that the endowment revenues be directed to four key areas: serving mosques, supporting healthcare, advancing education and culture, and assisting underprivileged families.
“Such endowments reflect the multiple dimensions of our mission — making endowment a culture among individuals, managed with the highest standards of governance and sustainability, and directed to areas that touch human lives. This initiative reinforces the role of endowments as a strategic tool for local development,” Al-Marzouqi said.
He emphasised that real estate endowments in particular create a lasting humanitarian and social impact, ensuring that revenues benefit successive generations and strengthen the concept of continuous charity (sadaqah jariyah).
Under the terms of the endowment deed, the donors will serve as custodians of the properties during their lifetimes, after which supervision will transfer to the General Administration of Endowments.
This arrangement guarantees both legitimate benefit and the fulfilment of the donors’ charitable vision.
The revenues will be allocated across four specialised endowment funds: the Mosque Endowment Fund, the Healthcare Endowment Fund, the Scientific and Cultural Development Endowment Fund and the Family and Childhood Endowment Fund (supporting needy families).
This diversified allocation demonstrates the donors’ desire to maximise the social impact of their contribution by serving places of worship, supporting patients, fostering knowledge and culture, and strengthening family solidarity.
