Qatar International Islamic Bank (QIIB) has been awarded the highest certificate in the protection of banking cards data, also called the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS) for the fourth consecutive year. The PCI-DSS certificate is granted to institutions with the best security standards in the critical field of Information Security.

QIIB Deputy CEO, Jamal Abdullah Al Jamal, was handed over the certificate by Ray Vincent, Head (Business) at SISA Company in Qatar, Africa, Asia and Pacific Ocean, at a ceremony held at the bank headquarters in Grand Hamad Street.

Other QIIB officials who also attended the event were Ali Hamad al-Musaifri, Chief of Human Resources and Administrative Affairs, Omar Abdul Aziz al-Meer, Chief of Business Development, Hesham Mohameden, Chief Information Security Officer and Abdul Rahman Hassan, Director of IT Governance. The certificate award ceremony was also attended by Nigel Arolcar, Assistant Director (Business Division) at SISA for Qatar, Africa and Indonesia.

Speaking about the latest certificate received by the bank, Al Jamal said: “We are extremely happy to maintain the highest international standards in the field of protecting our customers’ data. In fact, this certificate reflects our long-term investments in cyber security with the purpose of achieving this outstanding level in the field of security and customer data confidentiality.

“QIIB was always keen on providing the highest standards in relation to all its transactions, services and customers’ data. Today, we have received this certificate for the fourth consecutive year, hence proving that we are moving forward, meeting the expectations of customers and maintaining their interests in the best way.”

Al-Jamal also said that the PCI-DSS certificate awarded to QIIB was not a regular one but rather the result of the cumulated plans, expertise and smart investment in technology. “We are proud to be among the leading banks in the field of maintaining the highest security standards in various services. QIIB will continue its successful investment in developing systems, software and technology, which contribute in achieving the highest international standards in this field and mitigating the various risks, in particular those related to cyber security, currently considered as an international challenge,” he also said.

During the event, Al Jamal also recognised the outstanding level of SISA, a leading company in information security and protection of customers’ data. He said the bank is keen on benefiting from SISA’s extensive expertise in the field of cyber security and protection of customers’ data.

Also speaking at the ceremony, Mohameden also said: “The world is now facing significant challenges in tackling the increasing numbers of electronic crimes, hacking and phishing, which consequently have increased our efforts to ensure the highest standards of Cyber Security in protecting our customers’ financial data.”

Vincent added: “The interest given to the security of data and banking systems and enhancement of Cyber Security is currently prioritised in the banking field. QIIB awarded with the PCI-DSS certificate proves that the bank succeeded in achieving the highest security standards in the international banking sector.
