Doha: The Qatar Endurance Racing Club (QERC) is set to organise the Founder Cup International Endurance Race over 120 km on Friday at the Marathon Village in Sealine, with the competitions slated to conclude on Saturday.

A total of 75 riders of both genders will participate, competing across stages of 40 km, 35 km, 25 km, and 20 km.

In addition, the 100 km International Qualifier Endurance Race will be held over four stages, comprising 35 km, 25 km, and 20 km each for stages 3 and 4.

The activities will start with the veterinary check and orientation briefing on Friday, from 14:00 to 16:00, for all participants, expectedly marked by strong competition among riders determined to claim victory and the trophy.

Notably, QERC was established on Oct. 7, 2021, and is an extension of the Qatar Endurance Committee, established in the early 1990s, which was formerly a department within the club before being converted into an independent committee, administratively operating under the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) and overseen by the Qatar Equestrian Federation (QEF).

Overall, Qatar was among the first countries in the Gulf, Arab region, and Asia to organize this type of race, with the first local races launched over 40 and 42 km in 1992.

This was followed by the first international endurance race in 1994 in Ras Laffan, featuring Qatari riders and several participants from abroad.
