Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry, in cooperation with the Communications Regulatory Authority, organised a workshop on knowledge transfer in the field of competition protection recently. A number of specialists and relevant officials from both entities participated in the session.
Designed to strengthen cooperation and facilitate the exchange of knowledge and expertise, the session sought to raise awareness of competition protection principles and support practices that enhance market efficiency.
Key topics included Qatar’s institutional framework for enforcing Law No. (19) of 2006 on the Protection of Competition and Prohibition of Monopolistic Practices.
Participants examined the role of the Competition Protection and Antimonopoly Committee, as well as the sections of the Competition Protection Department and their respective mandates. The Department’s services and relevant application procedures were also presented.
Further discussions addressed fundamental competition concepts, anti-competitive practices, and conduct that may restrict competition or disrupt the normal functioning of markets.
Several indicators used to assess competition and levels of market concentration were also reviewed, together with guidance on their interpretation.
