Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has launched the first edition of its Summer Saturday Sports Forum, a month-long initiative designed to encourage physical activity, strengthen social bonds and enhance the wellbeing of ministry employees and their families.

Organised by the Ministry’s Public Relations and Communication Department, the programme begins on July 25 and continues until August 22, 2026. It is open to ministry employees and their children aged 15 and above, forming part of the ministry’s summer activities aimed at improving quality of life through sports and social engagement.

The forum features two main sporting events held every Saturday. The morning programme, titled “Cool Off with Your Colleagues,” takes place from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Al Andalus Educational Complex, where participants can enjoy swimming and recreational activities in an indoor setting suited to the summer season. The initiative is intended to promote physical fitness while providing employees with opportunities to strengthen friendships outside the workplace.

The evening programme, “Sports Forum Champion,” will be held after Asr prayer at Omar Bin Al Khattab Secondary School for Boys. Participants will compete in a range of sporting activities and team competitions designed to foster teamwork, fair competition and sportsmanship while showcasing athletic skills.

The ministry said the initiative reflects its commitment to encouraging healthy and balanced lifestyles, reinforcing the concept of sport as a way of life, and promoting positive values such as perseverance, discipline and cooperation.

It added that these values contribute to improved workplace performance and stronger professional relationships among employees.

The Summer Saturday Sports Forum also aligns with Qatar National Vision 2030, particularly its human development pillar, as well as the ministry’s 2025–2030 Strategic Plan, which prioritises human capital development, a positive work environment and stronger community participation.

The ministry expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and the administration of Omar Bin Al Khattab Secondary School for Boys for their cooperation in hosting the activities and providing the necessary facilities.

Expected to attract broad participation throughout its four-week programme, the forum reflects the ministry’s wider efforts to invest in employee wellbeing, encourage work-life balance and strengthen team spirit through meaningful community-based initiatives.
