New York: The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) revealed Wednesday that Palestinian civilians in Gaza, including its staff, are fainting due to severe hunger, noting the deaths of children and disabled people as a result of starvation and severe malnutrition.
In a post on the X platform, the UN agency renewed its call to lift the Israeli blockade on the Gaza Strip and allow the entry of humanitarian aid to end the famine there, stressing that people in the Strip, including UNRWA staff, are dying from severe hunger and starvation.
"People, including children, are dying from severe malnutrition," it said, adding that "UNRWA alone has thousands of trucks in neighbouring countries waiting to enter Gaza, banned by Israeli Authorities from entering since March. The siege must be lifted now to allow our lifesaving humanitarian aid in."
More than one international humanitarian organization has called for the immediate lifting of the blockade on Gaza, in light of the horrific scenes being circulated depicting the scale of the tragedy facing the Strip's population.
