Doha: Minister of Religious Affairs and Worship of the Republic of Mali H E Mamadou Kone, and his accompanying delegation visited the Zakat Fund Department at the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs. During his visit, the Minister was briefed on the Qatari experience in the field of Zakat work.
Assistant Director of the Zakat Fund Department Ahmed Sultan Al Misifri, presented a full explanation of the Fund’s work and an introduction to its role in society.
He indicated that the Zakat Fund Department is one of the departments of the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs and it is the government agency to which the law has assigned the jurisdiction to collect zakat funds, and to pay them to those entitled inside Qatar who meet the conditions of legitimate banks.
He explained that the fund performs the duty of inviting the community to give charity and sacrifice, and spreads the jurisprudence of zakat through conducting media campaigns, organising specialised scientific and jurisprudence courses, and regular courses for calculating corporate zakat to disseminate zakat culture among economists in Qatar and abroad.
He pointed out that the fund includes qualified cadres to conduct social and field research in order to deliver aid to those who deserve it.
The Minister of Religions and Worship of the Republic of Mali expressed his happiness with this visit and to learn about the distinguished Qatari experience with zakat work, and his desire for cooperation between the Ministry of Endowments represented by the Zakat Fund, and the Ministry of Religious Affairs in the Republic of Mali, in order to exchange experiences on collecting and distributing zakat.
