Doha: After a long break due to the coronavirus pandemic, top Qatari shooters will be back in action at the highly-anticipated Amir Cup 2020 Shooting & Archery Championship, which  begins today with various titles up for grabs. 

The event, which will conclude on November 28, will kick off with the PET Trap event,  and will witness competitors fighting for top honours in Trap, PET Skeet, PET Double Trap, PET 25m Rapid Fire and Pistol competitions at Qatar Shooting & Archery Association’s (QSAA) Shooting Complex in Losail, today.    

QSAA Secretary General Majid Ahmed Al Naimi said all preparations have been completed to host the event in a befitting manner. 

“We wish shooters all the best in this elite shooting championship,” said Al Naimi before adding all precautions have been taken to ensure health safety of all the participants. 

“We will strictly follow all the guidelines to control the spread of virus as health of all those involved in the championship is our top priority,” he said.   

Al Naimi added the shooters have been prepared well for the challenge, saying thrilling competitions will be seen during the event.  

“Top-ranked shooters in all categories are competing in this championship and there will be exciting competition in the next few days,” he added.      

Mohamed Ahmed Taher, Executive Director and Director of the Tournament, hoped the contest will help scout out new talent of the country. 


The event will feature Qatar's top shooters in all categories.

“Qatar has many talented shooters who want to achieve accolades at the highest level. We have found very good talent in the past Amir Cup Championships, and this year too we are hoping to see promising shooters,” he added. 

Saud Hamad Al Qahtani is head of the shotgun referees committee, while Ahmed Abdulrahman Al Jaida has been appointed head of the gun and pistol referees committee for the event. 

Today’s events will be followed by 10m Air Pistol and 10m Air Rifle, 10m Running Target, 50m Rifle Prone, 50m Rifle 3 Positions and 25m Centre Fire Pistol competitions, which will be held tomorrow.

The skeet and double trap events will be held on November 20 onwards while the skeet mixed teams action will be on the final day (November 28).

Meanwhile, two-day archery action will start from tomorrow.
