African champions Al Ahly moved into the semi-final of FIFA Club World Cup after edging Qatari champions Al Duhail 1-0 at the Education City Stadium on Thursday.
Egyptian national Hussein El Shahat scored the winner in the 30th minute, and later the Cairo-based club defied Al Duhail’s fine performance in the second half to set up a semi-final clash against European champions Bayern Munich on February 8 at the Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium.
Al Duhail will now play Ulsan Hyundai FC for the fifth position at Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium on February 7.
Ulsan, the Asian champions, lost 2-1 to CONCACAF champions Tigres UANL in the tournament’s opening game at Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium on Thursday.
The six-team event ends on Feb 11.
