Ferreira wins Best Coach Award as QSL champions Al Sadd dominate

QNB Stars League (QSL) winners Al Sadd walked away with top three awards at the 2018-19 Qatar Football Association (QFA) Awards at a glittering function held in Doha yesterday.
At the sprawling theatre inside the Qatar National Convention Center in Doha’s Education City, The Wolves bagged the Best Coach, Best Player and Highest Goal Scorer awards.
Al Sadd’s Portuguese coach Jesualdo Ferreira was named as the best coach of the season while Al Sadd and Qatar national team striker Akram Afif bagged the coveted award for the Best Player. The Top Scorer’s award went to another Al Sadd striker, Baghdad Bounedjah.
The function saw the attendance of an array of dignitaries who included officials, celebrities, heads of clubs, coaches, players and media representatives.
The annual awards presented were Best Player, Best Under-23 Player, Best Coach, Top Scorer (Mansour Muftah Award), Best Referees and Football For All.
Bounedjah won the Mansour Muftah Award for the top scorer, having netted a record 39 goals in the QSL. He played a crucial role in Al Sadd’s triumph in the tournament.
Bounedjah received the award from former star Egyptian footballer Mohamed Aboutrika.
The Algerian, could not lay his hands on the Best Player Trophy as he lost the race with fellow team-mate Afif.
Afif, who was part of the victorious AFC Asian Cup got the most votes ahead of Bounedjah and Al Duhail forward Almoez Ali.
Akram received the award from QFA Vice-President Saud Abdulaziz Al Mohannadi.
Al Sadd tactician Ferreira won his race ahead of Al Sailiya’s Tunisian coach Sami Trabelsi and Al Shahania’s Spanish master Jose Murcia.
The award was presented by QFA’s National Teams Management’s Technical Expert Saeed Al Misnad.
Al Duhail’s Qatar international Bassam Al Rawi emerged as the Best Under-23 Player after beating off competition from Al Ahli’s Abdulrahman Fahmy and Al Gharafa goalkeeper Yousef Hassan.
The player received the award from former Moroccan international Youssef Chippo.
The Yarmouk Preparatory School for Boys won the Football For All Award while Abdulrahman Al Jassim, Taleb Salem Al Marri and Saoud Ahmed were named as Best Referees.
