The 19th edition of the Doha Jewellery and Watches Exhibition (DJWE) concluded on Saturday after running successfully for six days at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC). This edition was no exception from earlier ones in the excitement it generated among the connoisseurs of luxury products and fine jewellery. The presence of more than 500 brands under one roof was proof enough for the standing of DJWE among the top jewellery and watches exhibitions in the world. All the respected and admired international jewellers and watchmakers were present at the exhibition showcasing their most important portfolio of products thus reinforcing the importance of DJWE among the producers and customers.
DJWE also gave a platform to local designers to showcase their creations to an informed audience and thus helping them attain commercial scalability and brand building. Ten up-and-coming local designers were given dedicated and prominent spaces at DECC to promote their brands. These designers showed great promise as their works were exquisite and won a lot of appreciation from industry veterans and visitors alike.
This year’s edition was attended by the Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and other prominent dignitaries, as well as celebrities from the region.
The exhibition was held under the patronage of the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior H E Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani and organised by Qatar Tourism and Qatar Business Events Corporation. Thousands of people visited the six-day exhibition daily and got an opportunity to see top watches and jewellery made by masters of the art from leading design houses and companies up close.
This edition of the region’s most important jewellery and watches exhibition, also showcased, for the first time, prominent global auctioneers Phillips in Association with Bacs & Russo. The renowned auction house unveiled a selection of watches ahead of their Geneva Spring auctions and a tightly curated selection of watches available for immediate purchase.
As the world wakes from the COVID-19 pandemic slumber, people are increasingly spending on luxury purchases and there are reports suggesting watchmakers in Switzerland are witnessing growing demand and most reputed brands are seeing very healthy sales that some iconic brands are selling only to their trusted customers as black-market prices have soared more than the tag price. As markets grow customers’ tastes evolve, and designers will be nudged to create new designs and exhibitions like DJWE offers them a platform to get feedback and also test the waters commercially as Qatar is one of the finest markets for luxury goods including watches and jewellery.
