Doha Institute for Graduate Studies (DI) continues classes through virtual education platforms until 3 May 2020 (extendable), as the Government Communications Office announced, the suspension of classes in educational institutions in Qatar earlier in March, as precautionary measure to limit the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) and to ensure the safety of students health.
Director of Communication and External Relations Department at DI, Ali Menadi Al Kaabi indicated that DI aimed to provide best facilities to all members of the institute, stating that the institute worked previously on establishing a foundation of educational platforms to smooth the process.
Al Kaabi underlined that approximately 1400 hours spent on the virtual learning systems, whereas the attendance of students reached 100% by the end of the fifth week, including 90 courses which covers 18 master’s programs in both schools, the School of Social Sciences and Humanities and School of Public Administration and Development Economics.
Commenting on the advantages of e-learning, Al Kaabi said, “Although the current circumstances impose social distancing, the different virtual platforms provided by DI enabled the fast adaptation of professors and students using this new method of learning. Mentioning the huge capabilities of audio and video communication available, as well as the creation of special rooms for discussions and other features. On the other hand, the disadvantages of the virtual platforms are facing some technological challenges, as it’s a new process in the region, especially in Qatar. Hence, it is important to identify the best platforms and use it.
Al Kaabi concluded that the virtual education should be continued in future as it will benefit the students and it is the best way to use technology.
