Washington: Two American citizens have been killed recently in the Donbas region of Ukraine, the US State Department confirmed Saturday.

"We can confirm the recent deaths of two US citizens in the Donbas region of Ukraine," a spokesperson for the State Department said, without providing any details about the individuals or the circumstances of their deaths, but said they "are in touch with the families and providing all possible consular assistance."

At least three other US citizens have died since the start of the Russian military operation in Ukraine on February 24.
