Berlin: A gas pipeline exploded at a residential complex in Salzgitter city in the German state of Lower Saxony, injuring several people.

The German fire department spokesman said that a large part of the four-storey building collapsed last night due to the explosion. The debris of the building covered a large area and 15 people were seriously injured.

It is very likely that there will be other people trapped inside the building, the spokesman said in a statement broadcast by the German news agency.

He pointed out that the situation is still under investigation, where it is not yet clear the cause of the explosion.
