Doha, Qatar: As countries welcomed the agreement on a memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran, global leaders joined in praising the role played by Qatar in supporting the diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving it.
Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, in welcoming the agreement, reaffirmed that the State of Qatar will remain a steadfast supporter of negotiations conducted in a positive and constructive spirit and of all endeavours aimed at strengthening security and stability at the regional and international levels through dialogue and peaceful means.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan welcomed the agreement and praised Qatar's role in supporting the diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving this understanding.
President Erdogan expressed his thanks in a post on X to the leadership of the US and Iran, as well as Pakistan, for their mediation efforts. He also expressed appreciation for the support provided by the State of Qatar and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the diplomatic initiatives.
He added that the MoU between the US and Iran represents an important development in consolidating peace and stability in the region, expressing his hope that it will contribute to creating lasting security and reassurance for all parties.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer also praised the efforts of international mediators, foremost among them Pakistan and Qatar, as well as other parties who contributed to pushing the negotiations in this direction.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni took to X to state her appreciation for the MoU, and expressed her heartfelt thanks to all the mediators. She wrote: "A heartfelt thanks goes to all the mediators, and in particular to Qatar and Pakistan, who have made this agreement possible. This is an opportunity for peace that must be seized: Italy, as in the past, is ready to support the diplomatic process toward a comprehensive agreement."
Finnish President, Alexander Stubb, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, and Dutch Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen also put out statements on social media welcoming the announcement and commending the mediation undertaken by Pakistan, Qatar and other countries involved.
Qatar’s intensive diplomatic efforts since the beginning of the crisis have included a series of contacts with many leaders and officials of fraternal and friendly countries and regional and international leaders, in addition to group, trilateral and bilateral meetings on the sidelines of regional and international conferences. These efforts demonstrated extensive Qatari coordination to support the path of de-escalation, and to promote dialogue as a strategic option for resolving the conflict between the US and Iran, and addressing the crises of the region in general. Qatar has consistently emphasised the need to prioritize political and diplomatic solutions and avoid escalation.
