Antalya: In front of the 13th plenary session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) held in Antalya, Turkiye, a delegation from Shura Council highlighted Qatar’s efforts to consolidate the principle of dialogue as an approach to resolving differences, settling disputes and promoting peaceful coexistence in the world.

This came in a speech delivered by Member of the Shura Council H E Mohammed bin Eid Al Kaabi before the 13th plenary session of APA, under the title ‘Promoting Multilateralism in the Changing Global Dynamics’

Al Kaabi said that Qatar, thanks to the wise policy of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, has adopted the principle of dialogue and peaceful ways to resolve differences between countries in accordance with international law and the principles of the United Nations calling for peace and peaceful coexistence among countries of the world and the inadmissibility of using force to solve differences.

He also emphasised Qatar’s keenness to enhance international cooperation and provide a helping hand to all friendly countries to overcome the difficulties they face.

In this context, he referred to the State’s support for the Palestinian people, especially in the Gaza Strip, in an effort to mitigate the effects of the blockade imposed by the occupation, in addition to the efforts to bring peace to Afghanistan.

In a related context, Al Kaabi affirmed that Qatar succeeded through hosting the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 in presenting a global model of a country seeking coexistence and tolerance, preserving the history and cultural heritage of all people and respecting human civilizational values. He expressed thanks to all brotherly and friendly countries that supported this hosting.

In his speech, he touched on the issues on the agenda of the plenary session of the APA, noting their importance in enhancing cooperation between Asian countries and strengthening their contributions to achieving international peace and security.

In this context, he stressed that multilateralism contributes to limiting unilateral decision-making at the international level, pointing out the inappropriateness of the unipolar policy for relations between states.

The APA, in its 13th session, is discussing a number of draft resolutions, including a draft resolution on transformation towards an Asian parliament and a resolution to support the Palestinian people, as well as other resolutions dealing with issues of sustainable development, international cooperation and the role of democracy in reaching coordinated development and other important issues. On the other hand, the Shura Council delegation participated in the meeting of the Standing Committee on Social and Cultural Affairs, which was held on the sidelines of the session.  The meeting discussed a number of draft resolutions, the most prominent of which was a draft resolution on humanitarian assistance to a number of countries threatened by a humanitarian catastrophe and another project on Asian integration through information and communication technology, as well as a project on the protection and promotion of the rights of migrant workers in Asia and other important resolution projects.
