Doha: A person infected with omicron variant of Covid-19 can transmit the infection to more than 40 people, Dr Mahdi Al Adly, head of the Immunology Department at Sidra Medicine, said.

“At the beginning of the pandemic, a person infected with Covid transmitted the infection to three other people, then when Delta variant came, a person could transmit to nine people and currently a person infected with omicron can transmit the infection to more than 40 people,” he said.Al Adly stressed on the importance of third dose to protect and immunize society from new variants.

He also said that the incubation period of the virus initially was six days but for omicron it is only two days.

Speaking to Qatar Radio, he said that “it is preferable that booster dose be the same as the first and second vaccine.”
Some studies conducted in East Asia found that giving two doses of Pfizer and third of Moderna has more effect, but these studies have not been confirmed globally, he added.

The Ministry of Public Health chose some of the best vaccines in the world, he added.
