Berlin: Chancellor Angela Merkel on Sunday hailed the Social Democrats for voting in favour of joining her conservatives in a new coalition, saying the collaboration will be "for the good of Germany".
"I congratulate the SPD for the clear result and look forward to further cooperation for the good of Germany," according to a tweet attributed to her on her CDU party's Twitter account.
