A wise and timely call

Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani delivered the opening speech at first Qatar Economic Forum, which brought together a number of world leaders and heads of states and governments. The event is organised by Qatar, Powered by Bloomberg, and is being held under the patronage of His Highness.

The three-day forum ensured participation of global a delegation of more than 2,000 people. The forum is being held under the theme “New Perspectives for Tomorrow”, which clearly reflects in the speech of H H the Amir that touched many key areas dealing with Qatar’s development schemes and challenges posed by the pandemic of COVID-19.  

In a speech full of optimism with insight into the future, H H the Amir affirmed that the current and future development projects, including the development of natural gas fields, are not only directed to current generations, but to future generations too. 

“We were keen to adopt a balanced economic policy by continuing to expand the gas project in the North Field with the aim of increasing the production of liquefied natural gas output by 40% by the year 2026 and the revenues of this increase will be used to enhance our investments for the benefit of future generations”.

While expressing his confidence that the first edition of the forum will constitute a qualitative addition to the joint efforts of the countries and societies in the world and through cooperation between them and the business sector, they will overcome various challenges and build a better future for generations.

As H H the Amir has stated that the world has not yet moved to a post-pandemic phase in the shadow of the waves of renewed variants and mutations of the virus. H H the Amir drew the attention of world leaders and peoples to the coming stage that will not be easy economically and financially for any country.

H H called upon the world leaders especially of the major industrialised countries for more cooperation, within the framework of the international system, sharing the responsibility.

As the State of Qatar has spared no effort in responding quickly to tackle the serious repercussions of the pandemic locally and globally, at the local stage it has made great strides in the vaccination process.  

As Qatar gives importance to providing assistance to other nations, it believes that defeating the virus is a global issue that requires cooperation and joining hands to support poor countries. H H the Amir stressed that Qatar has provided necessary assistance to more than 80 countries and international organisations.
