As reports on education indicate that there are tens of millions of primary school-aged children in the world having no access to education, the State of Qatar harnesses its potentials and capabilities in order to reach the maximum number of these children in different parts of the world to provide them with quality education. As vast majority of out-of-school children live in extreme poverty, the global initiative launched by H H Sheikha Moza bint Nasser - Education Above All – had set ‘Educate A Child’ programme and already reached 10 million of these children.
Qatar Foundation’s global education think-tank WISE had also launched an initiative “Educate A Child - Zero Out of School Children” and as part of World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) 2021, new countries were included in the campaign.
H H Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Education Above All Foundation, stressed in the recent event of WISE that the “zero” strategy, aims to reduce the percentage of out-of-school children in several countries and this requires cooperation of all sectors to achieve the goal of universal primary education.
The Education Above All Foundation is currently working to secure and implement partnerships on the ground to intensify efforts in Gambia, Rwanda, Zanzibar and Djibouti to reduce the percentage of out-of-school children, through this initiative, the Foundation works hand in hand with a number of countries to identify and register marginalised children, and the hard-to-reach category of uneducated children at the primary level.
During an event attended by Qatari officials, Prime Minister of the Republic of Albania, H E Edi Rama, expressed his gratitude to the Qatari efforts in supporting education in his country, including the establishment of schools and educational facilities.
The inauguration of the school complex, Qatar Lasgush Poradeci, in the capital Tirana includes an elementary, middle, and high school and accommodates 1,300 students. The Director-General of the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) Khalifa bin Jassim Al Kuwari also inaugurated recently a school complex accommodating 400 students, and visited the Qatar Sunny Hill “Talat Al-Shams Nursery,” which consist elementary school for the benefit of 300 students.
In light of the country’s determination, the State of Qatar has set strategy that offers a practical solution to reach children in many countries in order to make education accessible for all. To implement this, Qatar is working though its initiatives and entities with governments and organisations and building partnership with institutions and thus reaching children deprived from their right to education for reasons beyond their capacities.
