Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Municipality on Monday announced that 156 parks across Qatar will host activities to mark Qatar National Sports Day.
In a post on X, the ministry highlighted the sporting atmosphere available in parks nationwide, noting facilities such as air-conditioned walking and jogging tracks, modern playgrounds, and free fitness equipment.
Parks from Umm Al Seneem to Rawdat Al Khail are among those prepared to welcome residents and visitors for the annual event.
Qatar National Sports Day, observed each year on the second Tuesday of February, encourages citizens and residents to dedicate time to physical activity and wellbeing.
Government entities, private organisations, and community groups typically organise open events, competitions, and fitness sessions on this day.
Parks overview
Qatar’s public parks have become key community spaces that combine recreation, landscape design, and accessibility.
Many parks feature shaded walkways, landscaped gardens, and open green lawns that allow for walking, jogging, and family gatherings.
Coastal and skyline-view parks offer scenic environments that attract visitors seeking outdoor exercise in pleasant surroundings.
Several major parks are known for their scale and facilities.
Large destination parks include expansive grounds, lakes or water features, and multipurpose sports areas. Others focus on neighbourhood access, ensuring that
residential communities have nearby green spaces for daily activity. Accessibility is a central design element.
Paved paths, ramps, and family-friendly layouts allow use by people of different ages and physical abilities, including parents with strollers and people using wheelchairs.
Key features
Most parks are equipped with children’s play areas, sports courts, outdoor fitness stations, and dedicated walking and jogging tracks.
Many also include picnic and barbecue areas that support social and family use. Water features such as fountains, ponds, or artificial lakes add to the environment and help moderate outdoor temperatures.
These amenities align with broader urban planning goals to improve quality of life and promote healthy habits among the population.
