Reflecting the sentiments of Qatar citizens and residents towards the Palestinians suffering from Israel’s atrocities in Gaza, a group of students has launched the “Stand With Palestine” initiative to support their brothers going through an ordeal for more than two months. The Qatari leadership is doing its best to give all possible assistance to the Palestinians with youngsters also coming forward to play their part in these tough times for the Palestinians.
A group of students of Qatar Foundation’s Qatar Academy Doha announced the “Stand With Palestine” initiative recently, under which a charity match will take place at the Education City Stadium on December 15 (Friday). It will not just be a match as several other activities have also been lined up before and after the match. All proceeds from the spectacle will go in humanitarian relief and support efforts for people in Gaza affected by the brutal Israeli aggression.
The match will bring together former and current football players including the region’s superstars besides media figures, influencers, and students from Qatar Academy Doha and the Palestinian School. The cast includes former Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Aboutrika and former Oman’s goalkeeper Ali Al Habsi.
The spectacle on Friday evening will include musical performances by artists Nasser Al Kubaisi, Dana Al Meer, Nasma Imad and Hala Al Emadi, who will perform the songs “Palestine Arabiya” and “Mawtani”. The organisers have also lined up a drone show and raffle draw for prizes during the half-time. Tickets are available at very affordable price of QR25. Those interested in giving further financial support to the Palestinians will have a chance to donate through a link that will be shared on the screens in the stadium.
The Qatar Academy Doha students including Al Mayassa bint Tamim Al Thani, Maryam Ahmed Al Hajri, Nayef Rashid Al Kubaisi, Mahdi Hussein Al Ahbabi and Asmaa Al Jaida have launched this initiative with Mahdi saying: “We are hoping the stadium will be packed and this event will be a resounding success showing how important is the Palestinian issue for all the Arabs.”
Another student said: “The initiative began with our keenness to do something positive, after we saw what was happening to our brothers in Gaza, and the difficulties they are going through, and the importance of showing our support for them in this crisis and communicating this.”
The event is aimed to involve the local community in events and activities in solidarity with the Palestinians. It is expected that all citizens and residents of Qatar will give a positive response and will support the initiative launched for a good cause.
