Qatar’s health sector has undergone a remarkable transformation over the years. It has made significant progress in all areas making Qatar one of the leading countries in the world in terms of the quality of healthcare offered to its citizens and residents.

Qatar has state-of-the-art hospitals and clinics in both the public and private domain equipped with cutting-edge technology and staffed by highly qualified medical professionals. The facilities offered by the hospitals are world-class and patients from other countries in the region often visit the facilities for complex treatments. The healthcare professionals in Qatar have performed many complicated procedures over the years, following the latest medical procedures, and showcasing the top-notch talent and facilities available in the country.

According to the latest numbers released by Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) about the healthcare services provided in 2023, its Outpatient Department received 2,835,791 visits and its laboratory conducted over 21 million tests. HMC performed 60,090 surgeries, while the Emergency Department received 1,327,249 visits during the past year. Life expectancy in Qatar is one of the highest in the region and infant mortality rates are significantly very low. All this is made possible due to the constant nurturing and huge investments over the years in the sector.

Qatar’s healthcare system has been ranked among the best in the world by various organizations, including the World Health Organization (WHO). Qatar is actively involved in global health initiatives and plays a leading role in promoting health equity and access to healthcare worldwide. Underlining Qatar’s commitment to the overall development of healthcare worldwide, WHO has even opened a country office in Qatar to strengthen cooperation and contribute to regional and global public health work.

Qatar has established several world-class research centres focusing on areas like precision medicine, genomics, and diabetes. Qatar is also actively fostering a vibrant medical technology ecosystem, encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship in the healthcare sector.

The state has 19 hospitals and five of them have been ranked among the world’s top 250 academic medical centres. Qatar has a strong healthcare workforce with around 30,000 people employed in government hospitals and around 20,000 in private hospitals. Going forward Qatar plans to connect patient data of government health facilities with private hospitals to avoid repetition in medical tests. Overall, Qatar’s health sector has made significant strides in recent years, positioning itself as a leader in the region and beyond. The country’s commitment to continuous improvement and innovation ensures that its healthcare system will continue to thrive in the years to come.
