Health is one of the key aspects of human development, and progress in health care is an integral part of Qatar National Vision 2030. Minister of Public Health H E Dr Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari stressed this point in her speech at the 71st session of the World Health Assembly in Geneva recently.

The Minister said that Qatar under the wise leadership of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani was working on the continuous development of healthcare system, good health and well-being of existing and future generations.  She said that Qatar was committed to achieve comprehensive healthcare coverage.

The health sector in Qatar continues to provide its services with quality and efficiency despite the unjust siege. The blockade has failed to have any impact on the delivery of services.  Dr Al Kuwari said that Qatar continued providing healthcare services to the entire population, including the citizens of the countries of the blockade, based on Qatar’s absolute belief that health was a basic human right, and human rights should not be affected by political differences.

Qatar is developing a strong health system to ensure universal health coverage for the population in accordance with the best international standards.

The country’s health system has been ranked among the top health systems in the world as it was ranked 13th in the world and the first in the Middle East in the annual Prosperity Index released by the Legatum Institute.

The ranking is important because of the quality of the health care system it provides, including the basic mental and physical health, health infrastructure, and the availability of preventive care.

The National Health Strategy 2018-2022 with “Our Health Our Future” vision focuses on improving the health of Qatar’s population, meeting the needs of the current and future generations and providing an integrated system aimed at improving health and providing better health care and better value for all.

In 2008, Qatar had launched its National Vision, which emphasised on comprehensive healthcare coverage to all residents in the country. “Our country provides government-subsidized healthcare services across the country and is available to all citizens and residents. Qatar has witnessed in last few years a significant expansion in the number of healthcare services and facilities meeting high standards of quality,” the Minister said The health care system in Qatar is implemented through a clear strategy, and aims to be one of the best health sectors in the region and in the world.
