Qatari beach volleyball sensations, Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan had mixed fortunes, but managed to advance to the elimination round of the four-star J&T Banka Ostrava Beach Open 2019, part of the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour, in Ostrava, Czech Republic, yesterday.
The pair who occupies the 5th spot in the FIVB World Rankings, won their opening match against Germany’s Nils Ehlers and Lars Flüggen in straight sets (24-22, 21-12) before going down to their Brazilian counterparts Alison Cerutti and Álvaro Morais Filho 1-2 (19-21, 21-18, 9-15) in their second Pool D match of the main draw.
Today, Cherif and Ahmed will play their Main Draw, Round 1 match. A win today will secure their spot in tomorrow’s second elimination round of the main draw against Czech duo Ondrej Perusic and David Schweiner.
