Doha:  The President of the Qatar Boxing and Wrestling Federation (QBWF), Yousuf Ali Al Kazim (pictured) has been appointed as Chairman of the Development and Planning Committee of the United World Wrestling Asian Council, it was announced here yesterday.
Kazim, who has served in different capacities in various Arab Federations, received a letter from Daulet Turlykhanov of the United World Wrestling Asian Council, urging him to present an integrated plan of action for development of wrestling.
“Qatar offered a proposal to the development committee and I was urged upon by the Executive Office, which insisted on me taking over the chairmanship,” Kazim said.
“As Chairman of the Development and Planning Committee of the United World Wrestling Asian Council, in addition to supervising all the development plans of the various committees of the Union, I will also be looking after the development plans for trainers, doctors, technicians and referees.”
Kazim appointment was made at a meeting of the United World Wrestling Asian Council Executive Office, which took place in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, on the sidelines of the Asian Championship.
The choice of  Kazim for the new continental position is a new achievement for Qatar sports, which has notched various regional and international achievements, both at the managerial level and by Qatari officials, besides Qatari athletes have won medals and titles in various foreign competitions.
The Executive Office of the United World Wrestling Asian Council selected two members to the Development Committee, one from Kazakhstan and the other from Nepal, leaving the freedom to select other members of the Committee to the Chairman.
“A member from Nepal was selected as an emerging wrestling state and various plans could be applied to develop and qualify athletes.
“And the selection of a member from Kazakhstan as a leading wrestling state could help implement the plans set by the Committee, and it will be our role to develop plans for courses and workshops so that their dates do not conflict with the regional calendar and international wrestling,” said Kazim, who will be in charge of the post until the current term of the United World Wrestling Asian Council Executive Office ends in 2021.
Kazim thanked the support extended by the Qatar Olympic Committee to QBWF programs and activities, stressing that the support contributed significantly to the Federation notching various achievements both in the sporting arena and at the administrative levels in boxing and wrestling, both at the national and international level.
