Al Rayyan yesterday unveiled their new signing Japanese defender Shogo Taniguchi in the presence of club President Sheikh Ali bin Saud bin Ahmed Al Thani.
Al Rayyan coach Nicolas Cordova was also present.
The 31-year-old center-back started two matches during Japan’s World Cup campaign in Qatar, where they reached the last 16 stage.
At Rayyan, Taniguchi is replacing Palestine defender Yasser Hamad who is injured. Taniguchi joined Kawasaki Frontale out of the University of Tsukuba in 2014 and went on to win four J-League titles with the club, who he captained from 2020. Al Rayyan are on the bottom of QNB Stars League standings hoping for a turnaround when the League resumes on January 4.
