Doha, Qatar: The 10th edition of Qatar Sustainability Week (QSW) was officially launched yesterday, marking a decade of community-driven environmental action.

The QSW 2025 campaign taking place from November 1 to 8, 2025, will feature more than 600 activities across the country aimed at promoting sustainable living and climate awareness.

Led by Earthna Center for a Sustainable Future, a member of Qatar Foundation (QF), and held in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MECC), this edition focuses on nationwide activities that encourage individuals and institutions to adopt greener habits.

“This milestone marks a decade of collaboration and commitment to advancing sustainability across the nation,” said Executive Director of Earthna, Dr. Gonzalo Castro de la Mata, at the launch held at Think Bay in Education City.

Officials and representatives from various entities attended the official launch of Qatar Sustainability Week 2025, held on Wednesday.

“We are honored to once again work alongside the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change to deliver Qatar’s largest and most inclusive sustainability campaign.” Dr. Castro de la Mata highlighted that activities will include workshops, panel discussions, community events, and awareness campaigns spanning the public and private sectors.

Earthna-led events will spotlight themes such as the green and blue economies, ecosystem restoration, and responsible consumption, including family visits to mangrove sites and food waste awareness initiatives under QF’s “Clean Plate” campaign.

Assistant Undersecretary for Climate Change Affairs at the MECC, Engineer Ahmed Mohammed Al-Sada, in a statement reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to advancing Qatar’s National Environment and Climate Change Strategy. He announced specialised workshops and awareness programs for children under the slogan “Our Little Ones, the Heroes of the Environment.” The ministry will also set up an interactive pavilion on Jiwan Island showcasing national initiatives on climate action.

Major entities across Qatar are contributing to this year’s program. The Ministry of Sports and Youth will activate its network of clubs to host over 37 youth and 11 sports initiatives promoting sustainable lifestyles. “Young people are the main drivers of positive change,” said, the Ministry’s representative, Rashed Ali Al Noaimi . “Through awareness campaigns and youth-led initiatives, we aim to prepare a generation that is environmentally aware and committed to a sustainable future.”

Among the key community activations, the Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) launched its humanitarian initiative, ‘1 Million Jerseys for Gaza’, to support relief efforts for Palestinians. The first jersey was donated by the Qatar national football team.

“We’re proud to be part of Qatar Sustainability Week,” said Assistant Secretary-General for Communication and Resource Development at QRCS, Mohamed Al Beshri speaking to The Peninsula.  “Our goal is to collect one million t-shirts, either new or used to be send to Gaza. Signed shirts from sports stars will be auctioned online, while the rest will be delivered directly as winter approaches.”

“We already have 1,700 collection points across Qatar,” he added, encouraging the public to participate.

Qatar Museums will organise a youth festival at the Expo House in Al Bidda Park on November 1 and 8, while Qatar University will run a campus-wide sustainability campaign. Community venues such as The Pearl, Green Island, and major malls including Doha Festival City and The Gate Mall will host public events encouraging collective action for a greener future.
