Qatar’s Wadha Al Abdulla in action during her match against Coco Lin Yik-hei of Hong Kong at the Qatar Epee Grand Prix, which began at the Aspire Dome, yesterday.
The three-day event features some of the world’s best male and female fencers, with Japan’s Masaru Yamada and Mara Navarria of Italy among favourites.
In total, there are 171 athletes in the individual men’s event and 124 in the women’s. The winner of each tournament will receive $5,000 in prize money. The Qatar event is the first Grand Prix stop of the season.
