Kazan:  Qatar defeated Sweden 2-0 in the second-round match of the 8th World Beach Handball Championship in Kazan, Russia yesterday.

Earlier on Thursday, Qatari team lost two championship  matches, the event which ends on July 29.

Qatar lost their first match 2-0 against Brazil and in the second match went down fighting to Russia 2-1.

Earlier, the Qatar team qualified for the second round after topping their group in the preliminary round matches.

They won against Australia and Denmark by identical margins of 2-0 but lost one match to Oman 2-1. Qatar is represented at the World Championship in Kazan by 10 players.

The Qatari team had qualified for the World Beach Handball Championship in Kazan after winning the sixth Asian Championship in Thailand last year for the fourth time in a row.
