Suva: Fiji parliament approved the appointment of Sitiveni Rabuka as Fiji's prime minister after a coalition of parties voted to install him, signaling an end to Frank Bainimarama's 16 years in power.

The secret parliamentary vote was closer than expected, with 28 members of parliament voting for Rabuka and 27 for Bainimarama Rabuka will lead a coalition government that includes the National Federation Party and the Social Democratic Liberal Party.
