Qatar Olympic Committee supports IOC’s position on Tokyo 2020 Olympics Games

The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) participated in a conference between the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Asian National Olympic Committees to discuss the principles established by the IOC Executive Board in relation to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics Games.
The Asian Olympic family has unanimously expressed its full support for the leadership of the IOC in this unprecedented crisis.
During the call, IOC President Thomas Bach extended thanks to Qatar for all its efforts in supporting refugees through sport, contributing to the development of the Olympic Movement and hosting the Chinese table tennis team during the crisis.
For his part, the Secretary-General of QOC, H E Jassim Rashid Al Buainain, said during the conference that the QOC reiterates its full support to IOC’s position regarding Tokyo 2020.
He added that the outbreak of the new coronavirus (COVID-19) has caused confusion in the global sporting agenda, including the Olympic qualifiers. He voiced QOC’s appreciation to the commitment of the International Olympic Committee on the interest of athletes when making its decisions adding that QOC is also keen to help its athletes prepare in the best possible way in these difficult circumstances, while placing the health and safety of all Qataris as a top priority at this time.
Earlier, International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach had said that it is too early to decide on postponing the upcoming Olympic Games - Tokyo 2020, slated for next July.
