DOHA: Doha Bank and the Qatar Sports For All Federation (QSFA) at the Ministry of Culture and Sports, yesterday announced the launch of the 15th edition of Al Dana Green Run 2020, which will be held on February 15, from 12noon to 5pm at the Aspire Zone.
Online registration for public participation in the marathon, which is expected to attract over 6,000 participants, is now available at the bank’s website www.dohabankmarathon.com, officials announced at a press conference.
The 3km race which is open to the public, will include various categories, including males and females aged under 18 years, males and females aged over 18 years, males and females aged over 35 years, male and female professional athletes, families (at least three members), people with special needs, and Doha Bank employees.
The winners of the first five places out of these categories will receive distinct awards, and 10 winners from the audience will be randomly chosen. Besides, the event will also feature a variety of entertainment activities such as face painting, a music session, drawing and colouring workshops, as well as football and basketball competitions.
Addressing the media, Doha Bank’s Head of Administration and Properties Department, Ahmed Al Hanzab, said: “Doha Bank organises Al Dana Green Run every year fulfilling its social responsibility and keenness to ingrain the sport culture in the consciousness of the Qatari society, given its importance in upbringing generations of physically and psychologically healthy individuals which constitutes one of the first pillar goals of Qatar National Vision 2030 on human development. Doha Bank’s ultimate purpose of organising such event is to promote a healthy lifestyle among the individuals of Qatar in cooperation with Qatar Sports For All Federation (QSFA) at the Ministry of Culture and Sports which is working to achieve its vision “Towards a Conscious Society with an Authentic Conscience and a Healthy Body”.
The race aims to raise public awareness on the various environmental issues and shores up the concept of sustainable development and environmental protection for realising the goals of the QNV’s environmental development pillar”.
Al Hanzab also highlighted the success of the event in attracting people from different segments of the Qatari society. “Al Dana Green Run gained a huge popularity in Qatari society evidenced by the increasing number of participants in each edition of the event every year. We expect that this year’s edition of the race will host more than 6000 participants,” he added.
Also speaking during the event, Essa Al Harami, General-Secretary of QSFA at the Ministry of Culture and Sports, said: “We are very pleased to renew our cooperation with Doha Bank in organising Al Dana Green Run, an event that serves our purpose in expanding the culture of sports with various entertainment methods as well as raising the awareness of the importance of physical activity among all individuals of both genders whatever their age is in Qatar for its social, mental, economic, and health benefits.
We affirm through our cooperation with Doha Bank in the organisation of this race that we care about the protection and perseverance and development of the environment by adopting the ideal environment practices.”
