Qatar, Japan to boost energy ties

Doha: The Minister of State for Energy Affairs, H E Saad Sherida Al Kaabi, yesterday discussed bilateral cooperation with Japan’s Minister of Economy, Trade & Industry, H E Kajiyama Hiroshi.

Discussions during the meeting, which was held virtually, dealt with various aspects of cooperation in the energy field between Qatar and Japan, and means to enhance them. 

Qatar is the 3rd largest supplier of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Japan, the worlds third largest economy. At the same time, Japan is also one of the leading partners of Qatar with a trade volume reaching $16bn in 2018 with a growth rate up to 23 percent from the 2017 trade volume which was $13.1bn.
