DOHA: The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has welcomed a new batch of 33 Qatari male and female engineers into its Project Management Development Programme (PMDP), underscoring its ongoing commitment to building national expertise capable of leading major infrastructure projects with high efficiency.
The programme, supervised by Ashghal’s Human Resources Department, is specifically designed for newly graduated Qatari engineers. It aims to strengthen their professional and technical capabilities, equipping them with the practical skills and knowledge required to manage complex projects that support the country’s continued development.
Ashghal said the latest intake reflects its strategy to enhance the readiness of its engineering workforce and prepare them to take on greater responsibilities in delivering future infrastructure schemes. The authority has long prioritised investment in human capital as a cornerstone of its operations, aligning training initiatives with the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Third National Development Strategy.
The Project Management Development Programme forms part of a broader suite of accredited training schemes offered by Ashghal. These include the Graduate Development Programme for non-engineering graduates and the Administrative Development Programme for staff in support roles. The programmes, which typically run for between 12 and 36 months, combine theoretical learning with practical application to ensure participants are fully prepared for the demands of the workplace.
In recent years, Ashghal has celebrated the graduation of successive cohorts from these initiatives. In May, the authority honoured 161 engineers and employees who successfully completed the fourth batch of its specialised training programmes, highlighting the scale of its investment in continuous professional development.
Officials have repeatedly stressed that such programmes create clear career pathways, foster a culture of lifelong learning, and help develop a second line of Qatari leaders capable of driving the authority’s ambitious projects in roads, drainage, buildings and other critical infrastructure sectors.
By bringing a new group of 33 engineers into the Project Management Development Programme, Ashghal continues to prioritise the empowerment of Qatari talent. The move is expected to contribute to the efficient delivery of future projects while reinforcing the authority’s role as a key driver of sustainable national development.
