Doha: Qatar’s Hamad Al Sahouti yesterday finished a creditable overall fourth in the Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup at the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia at the Mandalika Circuit.
Al Sahouti representing team Honda finished eight in Race 2 missing out on the seventh place by tenths of seconds. His show was termed as ‘another solid performance’ as the Qatari collected valuable points for to stay in the top five of championship classification.
Al Sahouti finished Race 2 clocking 28’22.724secs with a top speed of 145.4kmph. The effort saw his overall points tally move up to 54.
He had scored 13 and 20 points at the Ooredoo Grand Prix of Qatar Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup at the Losail International Circuit Qatar being second on the podium, while he picked 13 and 8 points respectively in the two races in Indonesia.
Amon Odaki of Japan also has 54 points while top-ranked Hakim Danish of Malaysia is leading 72 points followed by Japanese Shinya Ezawa on 71 points.
Hakim Danish completed the double yesterday at Mandalika, taking his second Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup win after a race-long battle on take two.
The Malaysian defeated Gun Mie by a couple of tenths by the flag, with Shinya Ezawa in the fight at the front throughout before a late mistake relegated the Japanese rookie to third.
Off the line this time it was Danish immediately into the lead, with polesitter Amon Odaki slotting into second.
But early on it because a three-way fight between Danish, Mie and Ezawa, with Odaki relegated to the front of the fight for fourth. That was how it remained for much of the race, with Danish making a few small errors earlier on but staying well in contention and Ezawa the first to forfeit the chance to fight for it to the flag.
Race 1 podium finisher Reykat Fadillah had a Long Lap penalty for a shortcut and came home seventh, with Al Sahouti a few tenths behind the Indonesian.
Diandra Trihardika was hot on his heels in P9, with Jakkreephat Puettisan completing the top ten after a late penalty relegated Farish Hafiy to P13.
