Perfect Empire was expected to excel yesterday and the Jassim Ghazali-trained colt, helmed by Alberto Sanna lived up expectations, clinching a 1½-length win in the Thoroughbred Guineas at the QREC’s Al Rayyan Park yesterday. In what was one of the feature races of 12th Race Meeting yesterday, the Al Wasmiyah Farm’s Perfect Empire finished ahead of Think Big ridden by Tomas Lukasek to clinch the winning prize of QR85,500 in the QR150,000 race for three-yearold entries.

Team Think Big collected QR33,000 while Main Reef with Faleh Bughanaim in the saddle took third position and walked away with QR16,500.

In Purebred Arabian Guineas – a mile run race for 4-year-old that also offered a total prize money of QR150,000 – H H Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Thani’s homebred Mon’nia completed a hat-trick with a 3¼ length victory. Tomas Lukasek rode the Julian Colin Smarttrained filly to triumph. Jabalah, with Soufiane Saadi in the saddle, clinched second position, followed by Jason Watsong-guided Arguya in third position.

Umm Qarn’s homebred Equinoxe, ridden by Ronan T h o m a s w o n the Local Thoroughbred Guineas - yesterday’s third race with a total purse of QR150,000. Arandas finished second ahead of Thamina, which registered third position.
