Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, represented by its Mosque Department, has inaugurated the Hamad Isa Al Hassan Al Muhannadi Mosque in Al Dhakhira as part of its ongoing expansion plan to enhance mosque services across residential areas in line with Qatar’s urban development and population growth.
The newly opened mosque has been built on a 4,400-square-metre plot and includes an imam’s residence and accommodation for the muezzin. Designed according to modern engineering standards, the complex provides a comprehensive and welcoming environment for worshippers while meeting the highest technical and architectural specifications.
The mosque was established through an endowment by philanthropist Aisha bint Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al Muhannadi, reflecting the important role of waqf (Islamic endowment) in supporting the construction and maintenance of houses of worship.
The ministry praised the charitable contribution, describing it as a lasting act of charity that will continue to benefit the community and serve generations of worshippers.
The Ministry emphasised that the project highlights the significant role of endowments as a key partner in community development while reinforcing the values of generosity and social solidarity that characterize Qatari society. Through such initiatives, benefactors contribute to the construction and development of mosques and other endowment projects that benefit both individuals and the wider community.
Registered as Mosque No. (MS 1454), the new Friday mosque can accommodate more than 480 worshippers, including 425 male worshippers in the main prayer hall and 56 female worshippers in a dedicated women’s prayer area. The mosque also features complete service facilities, including ablution areas and a minaret designed in harmony with the Islamic architectural style of mosques across Qatar.
The ministry noted that the inauguration aligns with its 2025-2030 Strategic Plan, which focuses on expanding and modernizing mosque infrastructure, improving the efficiency of religious services, and providing integrated worship facilities that meet the needs of the country’s continuing urban and demographic expansion. The strategy also aims to strengthen the mosque’s role as a center for worship, religious guidance, Quran recitation, and community service.
