QSL: Qatar SC looking for a better show in new season

DOHA: Qatar SC, who finished 10th last season, will be looking for positive results and a higher placement in the new season.

Coached by Abdullah Mubaraq, Qatar SC have brought in players who could deliver the goods in the new QNB Stars League (QSL) season.

Mubarak took over as coach in the 10th round last season when the team had only 13 points. However, they finally managed to secure 22 points at the end of the season, giving some hopes for their fans for the next season.

Coach Mubaraq has been working tirelessly to finalise his starting line-up for the first match against Al Gharafa at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium on August 4.

Qatar SC launched their preparations for the new season by starting training on June 24. Some of the new players that have been added are Rami Fayez, Joseph, Abdul Aziz Khalid and Ali Mohannadi.

The team left for Belgrade on July 5 for the start of their preseason training camp which will conclude on July 25. They will also play five friendlies during their training camp.

In the three friendlies played so far, Qatar SC featured in a draw with FK Garak before taking on FK Vojvodina.

Two days ago Qatar SC beat FK Becej after goals by Alaa, Ali and Omri.

Meanwhile, Al Arabi also geared up for the new season with a 2-0 win against NK Nafta in a preseason friendly on Wednesday.

Coached by Luka Bonacic, Al Arabi were seen home after goals by Yasser Yahia and Abdulrahmann Waleed. Both goals were scored in the first half.

This was the third friendly for Al Arabi who have played a 2-2 draw NK Dravograd and a convincing 8-0 win over NK Beltinci.

Al Arabi fielded Luay Sharif, Yaseen Yaqoob, Mustapha Abdi, Barakat Jafar, Mohammed Salem, Abdullah Marafi, Diego Jardel, Ahmed Fathi, Mohammed Saleh Elneel, Mileson and Francois.

In another friendly, Umm Salal beat Slovenia’s Roghasha Slatina 5-0 during their preseason training camp.

Christian Osaguono scored two goals while Yannick Sagbo, Mahmoud Al Mawas and Adeli Arahili found the net once each.

With coach Laurent Banide heading the show, Umm Salal will continue their preseason training until July 25.

The squad - which has welcomed back Mohammed Bilal and Mohammed Abdulmutalib back from injury - is undergoing training with two-hour sessions daily.

Umm Salal will play two more friendlies tomorrow and on July 24. Nasser Al Fadala, the team’s manager, praised ‘the players’ great commitment and discipline within the camp’ and the in the friendly also.

Umm Salal begin the new QSL campaign against Al Sailiya on August 4 at Khalifa International Stadium.

Elsewhere, in Bad Haring, Austria, Al Sadd lost to German second division side MSV Duisburg 4-1 during their preseason training camp yesterday.
