Doha: Seasoned Qatari rider Saeed Nasser Al Qadi yesterday guided Andreas SPB Z to victory in the Big Tour class as he warmed-up for the Amir Sword Equestrian Festival’s feature event in style.

At the Qatar Equestrian Federation’s outdoor arena, Saeed and his 12-year-old stallion Andreas SPB Z were in brilliant form as the duo sealed the win in the 145cm class with a time of 84.79 seconds despite conceding one fault. 

A total of QR500,000 is on offer as prize money for the winners during the three-day Amir Sword Equestrian Festival while today’s feature class winner will receive a brand new car along with the prestigious Amir Sword. 

In second place in yesterday's main event was Hamad Nasser Al Qadi astride Electra B. The pair came home in 86.17 secs. Salman Mohamed al-Emadi followed in third place with Cantaro 32 in 88.66 seconds.

The Medium Tour title was won by Hussain Saeed Haidan on 12-year-old gelding Viahipi d’Auzay in sensational fashion. The pair beat Cyrine Cherif and her 11-year-old stallion Brennus Villelongue by one-tenth of a second. 

Haidan and Viahipi d’Auzay finished their round in 68.33 seconds, while Cherif and Brennus Villelongue came home 68.43 secs. Kamil Sabitov astride Quintendro finished third in 72.61 secs.

Earlier, Abdulaziz Ghanim Al Nuaimi won the Small Tour class with Ferrari PH in 53.92 seconds. Mohamed Jamal al-Derbesti (Numero Uno T, 59.02) and Abdulrahman Eisa Al Bukhari (Irschi, 63.23) finished second and third respectively. 

Meanwhile, Badr Al Darwish, member of the Board of Directors of the Qatar Equestrian Federation and acting CEO of the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) yesterday expressed his happiness for the success of the first two days of competition.  Al Darwish also thanked all the committees involved in this exemplary organisation of the championship and said the Amir Sword festival is the most prominent event for the QREC and QEF.
