DOHA: As part of Qatar’s strong presence at major global tech events, the Ministry of Municipality, represented by the Center for Geographic Information Systems (CGIS), delivered a keynote speech at the Imagery Summit during the prestigious Esri 2025 International GIS Conference, held from July 14 to 18 in San Diego, USA.

The event is the world’s largest gathering in the field of geographic information systems (GIS), attracting thousands of experts in mapping, aerial imagery, and remote sensing.

The keynote highlighted Qatar’s more than 35-year journey in adopting GIS technologies, emphasizing the country’s efforts in unifying technical standards and enabling spatial data sharing through a comprehensive national system. This robust geospatial infrastructure played a vital role in the successful hosting of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

The presentation also showcased Qatar’s accomplishments in digital twin technology, the development of advanced geospatial applications, and the integration of artificial intelligence in mapping and analysis. It further detailed the Ministry’s cutting-edge aerial survey system, which includes manned aircraft equipped with aerial cameras, both terrestrial and aerial LiDAR scanners, and a fleet of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). These capabilities have enabled vertical and oblique surveys across Qatar’s land areas, as well as coastal mapping extending up to 10km offshore. The Ministry also unveiled its ongoing efforts to develop digital twins for key sectors within the municipality, which received significant attention and appreciation from international attendees for its advanced technological framework and support for planning and decision-making.

The Center reaffirmed its commitment to advancing Qatar’s national geospatial digital infrastructure and strengthening global collaboration in areas of innovation and digital transformation.
