Doha: Nineteen teams will be seen in action in the inter-school hockey tournament organised by the Qatar Hockey Federation at the Hockey Fields at Rayyan.
The first leg of the tournament will begin today from 9.30am, the organisers informed.
The second leg will be held during the first week of April with the finals planned for May 31.
The tournament is for both boys and girls and for children between the age of 8 to 17 years and will take place in five different age group categories.
Meanwhile, the Qatar National Hockey League is scheduled to start on March 8.
Six teams will play a round-robin League and the tournament is expected to run until the end of April this year.
Last year’s champions Gateway will lead the charge, while winners of this year’s Resident League, the Wanderers Hockey Club are hot favourites for the title.
Meanwhile, the Qatar National team will embark on a long tour to Malaysia early next month. Seven Qatari players have signed up for UiTM (University of Technology of Mara) and will play alongside the best players of Malaysia, India and Pakistan in the TNB Premier League, the Qatar Hockey Federation said.
The other team members are expected to join the group in May to participate in a intensive camp in ``. The Peninsula
