Jakarta: Qatari shooters, led by London Olympic Games bronze medallist Nasser Al Saleh Al Attiyah and archers yesterday arrived in Jakarta ahead of the 2018 Asian Games which kicks off tomorrow.
The two-time Dakar Rally winner, who is taking part in his sixth Asian Games, will be looking for his third gold medal at the Asiad.
Al Attiyah heads a strong Al Annabi squad of 20 shooters who will be seen in action in the continental.
Qatar are taking part in 31 events out of the 54 in the shooting competition in Palembang.
Shooting competitions are taking place in Jakabaring Sports City in Palembang, while the bow and arrow competitions will be held at the Gelora Bung Karno in Jakarta.
Qatar Shooting and Archery Association has the maximum number of athletes (27) at the Games followed by Qatar Athletics Federation (26).
Meanwhile, Qatar Volleyball Team also departed for the Indonesian capital of Jakarta yesterday from Chinese Taipei, a day after winning the Asian Volleyball Confederation Cup.
The Qatari team was crowned the Asian Championship on Wednesday, after beating Iran three sets for two (23-25, 21-25, 25 22, 25-18, 15-10) in the final match.
During the 2018 Asiad, Qatar will begin their quest for gold in Group F, which also includes India, Maldives and Hong Kong.
The Qatari volleyball players will start their campaign against Maldives on August 20.
Team Qatar forms a strong team and is eager to return home with many medals. There will be 222 athletes proudly representing Team Qatar at the continental championship.
The diverse and ambitious team includes 29 females who will take part in new and exciting sports, everything from shooting to taekwondo.
