Doha: Qatar’s leading cricket academy, Stallions Cricket Academy concluded a very successful second tour to Sri Lanka yesterday.
Stallions played 21 matches in three cities with leading schools and academies in Sri Lanka.
Some of these academies are managed/coached by current and former Sri Lankan test players such Angelo Mathews, Sanath Jayasuria, Sajeewa Silva.
The tour group of 70 was made up of three teams in the Under 10, Under 13 and Under 16 age categories.
. This is the largest ever-overseas tour Stallions embarked on after many successful tours to England, Australia, Oman, Dubai and Sri Lanka. The teams consisted of experienced players who have been training with Stallions for the past few years. During the tour, the teams were managed by experienced and ICC qualified coaches.
The tour comprised of a coaching camp that was conducted by former Sri Lankan fast bowler, Chaminda Vaas.
Commenting on the tour Sidath Tennakoon, the Head Coach of Stallions said: “This tour further provided our players an opportunity to put into match practice the skills they have learned. Whilst our tours provide a lifelong experience for our players, it is also a great opportunity for us to carry Qatar’s name to the international cricketing circle.
“In the near future we intend to bring cricket teams from overseas countries such as England, Australia, Sri Lanka to Qatar, which will not only help develop the game but also promote Sports Tourism.”
The main sponsor for this year’s tour was Q-tickets, the leading e-ticketing platform in Qatar.
Commenting on the tour Dr Tejinder Sigh, Chairman of Q Tickets said: “We were delighted to be the main sponsor of the Stallions tour to Sri Lanka.
